*Five Fast Race Cars (Source unknown)
Five fast race cars speeding round the track.
The first car said, “I can’t look back!”
The second car said, “Oh, no! I’m out of gas!”
The third car said, “Beep! Beep! I’m fast!”
The fourth car said, “Watch my tires spin.”
The fifth car said, “Vroom, vroom. I win!”
Then beep went a horn and flash went the lights,
And five fast race cars sped out of sight!

Royal Roaming

Another “transportation” storytime… Only three more weeks of “royal reading”. My, has the summer flown by!

OPENING:
Opening Song: If You Want to Hear a Story

PROGRAM:
Read-aloud #1: Arthur’s Tractor by Pippa Goodhart (I’m not sure that I’d use this for storytime again. It was kind of confusing to read-aloud… and may be more suitable for one-on-one sharing as the illustrations tell a lot of the story. I was being stubborn and insisted on continuing my summer trend of combining royalty AND the week’s theme into one story.)
Fingerplay: Open, Shut Them
Read-aloud #2:  Duck on a Bike by David Shannon
Song (with puppets): Five Little Ducks
Read-aloud #3: The Seals on the Bus by Lenny Hort
Song/Fingerplay: The Wheels on the Bus
Read-aloud #4: Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! by Mo Willems

CLOSING:
Closing Song: We Wave Good-bye Like This

Getting Places with Transportation

“Things that Go” storytimes are always very popular, and this was a great way to finish up our Winter Storytime Sessions. We will start up again in two weeks on the week of March 29. Signups for the Spring Storytime Session over at the Buena Vista Library start next Wednesday, March 17 (St. Paddy’s Day!). Storytimes over at the Central and Northwest Libraries will remain open with no registration required. Have a great spring break, everyone! I am going away to have fun at the Public Library Association Conference in Portland, Oregon 🙂 See you in two weeks!
