It’s time for my favorite writing contest: Susanna Leonard Hill’s Halloweensie contest! The challenge: write a 100-word Halloween story for kids using the words goblin, chill, and tiptoe. Hope you enjoy my entry!
FRIGHTENING REFLECTION by Jennifer Kaap (100 words)
Goblin couldn’t wait to scare the trick-or-treaters.
But when he looked in the mirror, he felt a chill. EEK! He was BEAUTIFUL!
He needed to look hideous again, STAT!
To avoid being seen, Goblin tiptoed out to gather supplies. Then, he tiptoed back with his gruesome concoctions.
He slathered mud on his face. Still beautiful!
He dunked his head in snail slime. Gorgeous!
He covered his body with leeches. Stunning!
The doorbell rang.
AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!
Goblin smashed the mirror, tore his shirt, and kicked down the door as costumed children scattered into the night.
Goblin smiled.
He was still ugly inside!
