Going Buggy at Storytime

Today was the last Toddler Tales of the season:( I am going to miss all of my friends, but I hope that you’ll still come visit me at the library. I also hope that everyone signs up for our summer read-to-me program. Sign-ups start Monday, June 9th. The hour-long club presentations (with professional guest performers) start on Thursday, June 26th and run through July 31st. We’ll meet each Thursday at 10 am at the Central Library. Regular storytimes will resume sometime in late September or early October. I’ll keep you posted on the dates as that information becomes available. In celebration of a great storytime season, I gave out certificates and goody bags to the children. If you were unable to attend and would still like the certificate and bag for your child, please stop by the library and ask for Miss Jennifer (only if you’ve been a regular attendee).

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

ROAR! Did I scare you??? Didn’t think so. Every now and then, I go over to the Buena Vista Branch Library to do a special Saturday morning storytime geared towards early elementary kids. Today, I presented a “beary” fun Goldilocks and the Three Bears storytime. We went on a bear hunt, we sang songs, we listen to and acted out some bear stories, and we even watched a silly Bugs Bunny and the Three Bears cartoon. The kids were a blast, and I even had one child comment that I was the best librarian ever! How precious. I love being a li-BEAR-ian:) I’ll post some pictures on my Storytime Flickr Photos soon!

Mother's Day

Hooray for Moms! After storytime today, we made a flower craft. We used green popsicle sticks, paper flower/leaf cut-outs and homemade green playdough. We made little flowers, and then stuck them inside a small cup using the playdough. I’ll include the recipe down below. My first batch turned out great…but the next two batches were too sticky…hmm. I used a different bag of flour for the last 2, so I am wondering if a certain type of flour works better for this particular recipe. (There are a few different no-cook and cooking recipes searchable via the Web.)

I also wanted to let everyone know that the rhymes that we use each week (the ones on the sheets that I pass out) are now available on this site. They’re listed as “Toddler Storytime Rhymes” under Pages on the sidebar. I hope to eventually include some sound recordings of some of the rhymes as well.

NEW Storytime Resources Page

Hello Everybody, How Do You Do?

I just finished writing a new page for my blog. Under Pages, you’ll find “Storytime Resources”. Here, I share my favorite books and websites that I use for storytime planning including resources on program planning, puppets, flannels, props, nursery rhyme coloring sheets, Mother Goose, music, storytelling and early literacy. Throughout the years, I’ve received many questions from parents, teachers and fellow librarians about where I purchase my “toys”, how I get my ideas, and where one can find out more about early language development. Hopefully, this new page will help answer some questions and also inspire more fun with language. Storytime is a wonderful way to help get young children excited about books, reading and learning…not to mention it’s a lot of fun! I am sure that I will continue to update this Resources page as new resources come to my attention.
