One of my favorite writing challenges is the annual Susanna Leonard Hill’s Halloweensie Contest<\/a>. This year’s challenge: write a children’s Halloween story in 100 words including “shadow”, “monster”, and “candy corn”. SO FUN.<\/p>\n

Here’s mine!:<\/p>\n

Trick AND Treat<\/strong> by Jennifer Kaap (100 words)<\/p>\n

One Halloween, my family and I were watching scary movies and munching on candy corn. Suddenly, I saw a shadow move.
\n“Someone\u2019s in the house!”
\n“Aww, is Little Sister sc-sc-scared? Should we turn off the movie?” my brother teased.
\n“Am NOT scared! Never mind.\u201d
\nMinutes later, I heard a faint noise sounding like “gonna eat…”
\n“Anyone hear that?”
\n“I did!” Dad paused the movie.
\nThe noise grew louder. “GONNA EAT…”
\nWe screamed as a monster<\/em> stomped in.
\n“He’s gonna eat US!”
\nHe came closer, roaring, “GONNA EAT…” He reached out. \u201c…. YOUR CANDY CORN!! TRICK AND TREAT!” He grabbed the candy corn and ran.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
